A multi-agency approach to Preventing Suicide
This is the second event of a series of joint events in Surrey focussing on the common themes in Local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, Safeguarding Adult Reviews, Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews and exploring what these mean in practice. The overarching focus for 2024/25 will be the concept of ‘Professional Curiosity’, what it actually means and how it can be relevant to a variety of topics. Our second topic is Preventing Suicide on 30th September 2024 between 9:00 and 12:30
This FREE half day learning event will enable participants to;
· Rethink the concepts of professional curiosity and challenge.
· Update their knowledge of the inequalities in all-age suicide prevention across England.
· Hear about the latest research into understanding interpretation of risk and prevention for all-age suicide.
· Clear understanding of advice on preventing all-age suicide prevention.
· Embed professional curiosity within daily practice.
This is a collaboration between Surrey Safeguarding Children Partnership, Child Death Review Partnership (CDR), Surrey Public Health, Surrey Police and Surrey Safeguarding Adults Board to take a life course approach to building healthy and resilient communities.

This is the first of a series of joint events in Surrey focussing on the common themes in Local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and exploring what these mean in practice. · Hear about the latest research into understanding interpretation of risk advice in higher risk families and this has shaped baby sleep project interventions.
· Clear understanding of advice on preventing Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy.
· Embed professional curiosity within daily practice.
This is a collaboration between Surrey Safeguarding Children Partnership and the Child Death Review Partnership (CDR) to take a lifecourse approach to building healthy and resilient communities.

Jonathan Dickens, Emeritus Professor of Social Work, University of East Anglia will be presenting on his published paper ‘Re-envisaging professional curiosity and challenge: Messages for child protection practice from reviews of serious cases in England’
Dr Anna Pease, Senior Research Fellow, Bristol Medical School, University of Bristol who completed her PhD at the University of Bristol in 2016, which investigated the decision-making processes of mothers with young babies from deprived backgrounds, in relation to the risk factors for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
