Government Announcement for the new Child Protection Authority in England

Date: Tuesday, 29th Apr 2025 | Category: Uncategorised

THE INDEPENDENT ENQUIRY INTO CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE AND THE CHILD PROTECTION AUTHORITY

The Government has announced that it will form a new Child Protection Authority in England as part of its response to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.

The Child Protection Authority (CPA) will be established to prioritise vulnerable children, making the system clearer and more unified, and ensuring ongoing improvement for child and youth victims of abuse and neglect through evidence-based support for practitioners.

The Government has set out its intention for the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel to provide the foundation for the new CPA by providing national leadership and learning on child protection. Once established the CPA will aim to provide a single source of information and an authoritative body to share good practice and recommend and implement solutions for better child protection.

Work to expand the role of the Panel will begin immediately as the Government will provide resources for the Panel to increase its analytical capacity and its capability to develop high-quality material for practitioners in FY25/26. Later this year, the Government will launch a consultation on a roadmap to creating a CPA, after which they will set out a clear programme and timetable of activity.

The Panel will continue to work with Government and other stakeholders as plans develop, and we encourage all those involved in safeguarding children to participate in the consultation process.
