Chris Robson – Independent Scrutineer Surrey Safeguarding Children Partnership
Hi everyone, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am the new Independent Scrutineer for SSCP, a role that I am both delighted and privileged to have been entrusted with. I genuinely can’t wait to start working with all Partners, supporting you to provide the best possible outcomes for our children and families. I see my role as a critical friend, someone you can rely upon to give honest, constructive advice. This means that sometimes I will have to deliver some tough messages but it’s equally important that I provide solutions, ideas and support. I believe passionately that we have brilliant people doing an incredible job, working above and beyond to safeguard children. I promise that as part of my role I will be advocating for all of you. I will also aim to highlight the excellent practice that exists, we can learn so much from what we do well.
And for those of you who’d like to know a little more about me, here’s a brief summary ……..
I served for 30 years as a Metropolitan Police Officer. Much of my career was spent in specialist detective roles dealing with crimes committed against children and vulnerable adults. I have significant experience in working with partners both at practitioner and strategic role. I was lucky to be asked to lead the Harringey Child Protection Team following the tragic death of Victoria Climbie. I led the police response to the independent enquiry into corruption in the Stephen Lawrence case and finished my service in command of the unit that was tasked with reviewing all unsolved homicides and responding to all statutory reviews, including Serious Case Reviews and Safeguarding Adult Reviews.
Following my retirement from the police in 2017 I have undertaken a number of strategic safeguarding roles. I currently work as the Independent Scrutineer in Norfolk and Suffolk Safeguarding Children Partnerships. I am an independent reviewer, chair a scrutiny group for the Rugby Football Union and Chair Norfolk Youth Justice Management Board
I believe passionately that safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility and that we must do everything we can to support each other in our efforts to improve outcomes children.
